I’ll return to most places for a bite to eat if any of the following exist – a good atmosphere, great service or delicious food. Thankfully, Newcastle’s Garden Kitchen has all three. Earlier this month I received the very generous invitation to try out their new spring menu. After a (very) brief consultation with my other half we accepted the offer and headed their on Saturday lunchtime.
This dish is unashamedly inspired by a recent trip to Jamie’s Italian in Nottingham. It was a meal that surprised me in so many ways: by being delicious, tasting fresh and the portions being generous. I was also pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t anything like a previous visit to the restaurant in Birmingham where everything was doused in chilli oil.
The side of vegetables was flash cooked cabbage and courgettes dressed with olive oil and lemon (they made it for me without garlic). A few days later I came up with this:
I made my very first trip to New York earlier this year. I’ll definitely be going back, but perhaps next time won’t eat quite as much food…it’s definitely one of those cities where it’s very easy to be completely overawed by how much stuff is on offer! I think I took advantage of a bit too much of that…
I’m going through one of those phases at work at the moment where I’m constantly on the go, sat in a lot of traffic and away from home for most of my meals. So when I do get home, I want something quick for dinner that is what it says it is, is going to be very tasty and take little effort.
